Taking a simple poll. Want to get a bead on the psyche of the typical morel hunter...
Do you hunt morels for the pleasure of eating them? OR Do you hunt morels for profit?

I love eating morels and enjoy walking in the woods its hard to find good hunting areas in Oakland County Waterford where I live. I think people should not profit form mushrooms in the wild I try to share what i find and introduce others to the satisfying taste and fun you can have hunting the mushrooms.

I love eating them. How do you make a profit with them? Not sure the money would be worth it. I like to profit from them by enjoying their deliciousness!

Following kneff's lead:
1. Thrill of the hunt 2. Eating them 3. Walking in the woods
That says a lot about how much I love the hunt, that it is more important than eating such a delicious dish!
I've never sold them before. We eat 'em and dehydrate them and give them to any friends or family that appreciate them. But some years I think about how much money we could get if we sold them, even at a modest $20/pound.

1...mushrooms are just the end result, are a by product and don't define my success.A successful hunt is one thats enjoyed and completed safely.I just love to hunt them. 2....they do make mighty fine table fare for sure
3....I don't sell my venison,fish or anything I harvest either...I'm not a game pirate

I have a place north of petoskey michigan. A couple of years ago while just out walking the woods I came across one. Took it to a local with knowledge who told me all about the craze in the area. since then I've been out every year. I've cooked them up for family and friends. I don't even know anyone who hunts them for resale.
