BSG, I saw your question re: what to do with the ones you might find and note that it's too wet for needle-and-thread drying. If you're feeling rich you could invest in a dehydrator.
I wonder if you could find a co-operative cafe owner who would be willing to sweat them down and freeze them for you for a small fee. Us heartlanders are pretty co-operative.

Mike you get me very time! always have a comeback for me your always on it! I don;t know the resources around here it seems real hilly here lots of pines here as well, so feeling like a lost morel hunter. I would freeze them bad boys but i have a 5hour drive at least and by time i get back they will be bad, i dunno if right now i could fit a dehydrator into my budget, i will go look at gander mountain, I have never messed with a dehydrator before either

You are all heart Mike! I am surprised that you didn't go down to BSG's home turf in Illinois and take videos of yourself collecting morels. Then some more pics and videos of yourself cooking and eating them.
I have only driven through that area. I would say to focus on the trees. In that area, I would look for aspen, ash and elm. They are on the early side of the season. So, I would concentrate on the south facing slopes.

There appears to be a huge area of state land to the south east of you at Devils Lake State Park (most likely where your training). I would hone in on BTA's around the area. They tend to be the earliest producing trees.

Haha i just found out Devils lake is 5 minutes from me! But i won;t go alone, i dont wanna get lost out here, its not like i brought the right tools with me, i have my knifes, my taser, my first aid kit, and a bunch of snacks but i sure as shoot have no compass, and the signal here is not so good, i may be able to hone in a spot on my phone for gps, but not quite sure, i plan on heading out wednesday as long as my co-workergoes i am game, now my question is how can i keep them? if i do happen to find some, wednesday night the will go in the fridge i will leave friday morning around ten, and be back in illinois, around 2 or 3 and as soon as i get into illinois i am headin into the woods until i can;t see any longer, i just concerned how long they can last, as soon as i get done huntin i will clean them but what to do in the mean time will they last and still be ok, or will they moosh!?
