Do you think the water from washed morels contain spores that can grow morels in the future? If so, where would you dump it? If not, why?

There are a lot of people who dump their wash water back in the area where they picked their shrooms from. Last year I dumped all my wash under a big maple in my back yard... the area i dumped in has lots of moss growing around rather than grass (though its still in my lawn)... so im hoping maybe in a few years a morel or two just might pop up with amount of LUCK. lol keyword luck.

I have always heard you can create a patch this way ,but it takes 4 to 6 years. When they first start to grow don't pick them until there is at least six for a sustainable patch. I have no experience. Just rumors for me.

I've been dumping mine for two years under some poplars near my back yard--so far nothing. I was remaining optimistic but . . . ?? I read on another site less than two week ago (I just have to remember/find which one) where a morel enthusiast stated he has had success by doing this but that you need to add either karo syrup or honey to the mixture and then let sit for two days in the dark before dumping. He stated that any longer than 2 days would cause the water to 'sour'. I'm fairly certain that he posted pics as well. I'll look for the post and provide the particulars when I find it.

I always save and dump my soaking water in areas of my yard that are similar in soil and tree type to the lucky spots in yard that produce a few each year. No true success yet but a nice stroll with a beer in hand with potential of even more reward later.

Yes, we try to always dump our water and cuttings back either where we picked or under a host tree such as an apple or elm. We starting doing that about 3 or 4 yrs ago and have had sucess. Good Luck!

I have always tried to shake the left over pieces and or spores out of any container I have picked them in. I shake them in the back yard by a likley spot but so far no luck.

Dad & I have done this on our property for well over 20 years and other than 1 year have found any. We have a small fenceline that had a couple of dying elms and a big ash tree within feet of each other so it just looks like it could be a winning spot but maybe it just isn't in the cards.

add karo syrup or molasses to your wash water...tblspoon to a gallon of wash water and leave your wash water at room temperature overnight, then dump outside in a likely habitat.

Dad always put the wash water and mushroom trimmings out in the orchard. And yes, morels grew there. They still do.
