I have a place around Houghton Lake I deer hunt at. Every year I know I can put more meat in the freezer with tree rats than white tail. I came really close to disturbing the area with the 22 instead of the bow. I’m 1 for 4 with the bow. I see at least 20 large grays sitting under that oak every deer season. This year I think its first come first serve.

We have a spot that is full of tree rats. I talked to a friend of mine, and he said it is loaded right now. He's been cutting wood in the area and sees at least 50 a day on the way through the woods. I love making pot pies out of them.

Place a bait pile of corn in a spot, go and sit down about 50 yards awy with a 22 and have a field day. This is the best way I know to hunt them. When you walk, the hear you coming before you even see them and they hide on the opposite side of the tree as you pass and you never se them.

I think of all the small game I ever had, squirrel was my favorite. Up here in northern Minnesota, though, we only have the small red squirrels, and I just never could see them worth hunting. There are a few larger gray squirrels in some of the towns, but you'd never get away with hunting them. The little red squirrels are probably the most annoying creature of the forest, always raising the alarm if you are in the vicinity and making it nigh impossible to creep up unexpectedly upon other animals.
