This year I think is going to be a good one. I seen more grouse and woodcock than I ever did, including nests. I seen 5 woodcock moms with three babys each and also found 3 grouse nests with around 10 eggs each. :cool1:

I've got to see a plethoria of nesting grouse this year. it's funny with their little blast up and then a short ways away landing. Then they go into the headless chicken dance to lure you away.

A gent I know says Wisconsin peaked last year and Michigan usually peaks the year after. If that holds true, its going to be a good year for sure.

The best lessons are those learned before you wish you had known better - especially when it comes to picking and eating wild mushrooms. :hunger:

Who needs a shotgun when you have cats?

True story: my daughter adopted a stray cat. Last fall, the cat brings up a freshly killed, still warm roughed grouse. We made quick work of that. Normally, don't eat the cat's offerings, but not letting a beautiful animal like that go to waste.

fortunately, he's outside

When I went to a buddies cabin growing up, I would wonder who was always trying to start an engine. I would hear it every once in awhile and never knew what the heck the sound was, or where it was coming from. It wasn't till later I found out it was the grouse drumming. The cabin is in northern michigan just outside of Mio, on the Ausable river. Beautiful place, and lots of Grouse.
