Post subject: Decisions, what to do. Posted: February 1st, 2006, 10:05 am

Life is good.
My youngest son was married Saturday. January 28, 2006.
He has always had this secret hunting spot. I almost made it there last deer season.
He is now married into the family and I was invited to sit in the prime tree stand on October 1st. 2006.
This is a 100 acre place owned by 4 families. Its opened territory and fair chase only. There are requirements. You get one deer period per year. Either a doe, or an 8 point or greater.
You have your choice, meat or trophy. The owners already have their trophies on the wall so they are mostly meat hunter. The heard is well balanced. I get one day only.
Decisions, decisions. Gosh life is good.

Go for the trophy man. A trophy will last a lifetime and makes for good conversation. The meat will feed the family for a while but you have 3 months of deer hunting to put the meat on the table. I know hunting is not always about the trophy but if you are given a chance to bag a trophy, I say go for it. Many hunters will hunt thier entire lives and never get the chance at a trophy. A trophy will always be a reminder of what an awsome experience of a hunt it was every time you look at it hanging above your fireplace. Also it would be a good addition to the photo gallery.
Good Luck

Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

It's your decision, but for me it would be a no-brainer - go for the big boy. I remember you talking of this spot before, referring to the type of deer that roam the area. A doe tag can be filled later if you want the meat, but a bullwinkle only comes by so often.

Believe me, If I have a chance at something the size these guys have hanging on their wall’s I’ll take it, provided I’m not hanging from my safety harness after I fall out the tree stand, or don’t start creating excessive racing stripes in my shorts.
I have the rest of the year for meat.

I've shot everything from doe's to 8pts. but never a rack big enough to have mounted so if I had the chance to hunt some property that gave me opprotunity to take a trophy or a doe,I have to take the trophy...
