Has anyone used a food dehydrator with morels? Does it work? Is there a better way?

Lots of people dehydrate morels in a dehydrator. I split mine before I do, unless they are already pretty dry already,

I have done it quite a few times as well. Works just fine. Not as good as fresh ones, but it nothing dehydrated ever is. I actually prefer to freeze dry my morels though. For some reason I think they just taste better. If you have any basic questions on the process feel free to ask!

I air dry and flash freeze raw. People I know use the excalibur and do it at a low (90*) temp or it wastes their taste.
jon...avatar is me 55 pounds extra on my gut and 40+ of fireburn morels..from the Sleeper Lake burn...found the fuzzy foot and thanks to greysRDbest for knowing what it was!

I 've dried many morels in a dehydrator and they worked out perfectly. I happened to find one used for $10 but I think they are only about $80 new. I did store the dried morels and chanterelles in a fruit jar in the freezer, however because even if there was the tiniest bit of moisture left in them they would mold. I tried drying them one year in the air with paper towels and ruined a bunch of them when they got moldy. Don't wash them before drying them!!

after sun drying i store them in brown paper lunch bags stapled up.if there is any moisture left it will evaporate.i put enough for one meal in each bag.its awesome looking at 20 or30 bags of morels on the shelf!we make sure we have some for our moose hunting trip each fall.

I use the Nesco Open Country dehydrator here http://youtu.be/Z8-H91DLFHo but prefer to freeze them raw or second best saute and freeze. The morels I dry in the sun taste much better than the dehydrator morels though.
