I just got done cleaning mine, hammer and a good sharp chisel became my weapons of choice, went outside on the deck knelt down and wedged the chunks between my knee's and chipped away at the outside, worked pretty well.
Just remember...... you can eat any mushroom ONCE

About Chaga and it's rarity.... I do NOT believe they only exist on every 10-15000 trees.... I've found well over 150 in the past 4 years.... [ Post made via iPhone ]

Treat chaga like coffee and you will enjoy it. Well, if you enjoy coffee.
I simmered mine until it concentrated so that you cannot see your finger 1/4 inch deep in it. Then I added creamer and have been sipping on it all day. Tastes just like truck stop coffee loaded with creamer.

I found some the other day after first reading this post. I ground it in a coffee grinder and ran it threw my coffee pot. Run a double batch and chilled it in the fridge. Tasted like ice tea to me. I loved it and have enough for about 4 more batches befor i have to search for more. Good thread!!!

Hey Mike,
From what I have read, it works if it is taken off any type of birch tree. It can grow on other trees but it does not have any medicinal effect when it does.
It is good stuff. I drink it 3 times daily.

Hi Jon,
I still use a Bigalow Earl Grey tea and a teaspoon of stevia powder with it. I really like it that way. In fact, I am drinking a cup as I am writing this. I am going to try knocking off the black stuff on the next batch that I process. I need to process some again over the next couple days. I also need to take a serious road trip when I am up north to find some birch trees. There are some birch trees in the area where I camp but they are few in number. I have not seen chaga on them. There are only two birch trees in entire town where I live. One of them is in my backyard. I should try to infect it with chaga. I would like to get some fresh stuff that is not as hard as concrete before I process it. I would like to break it down as fine as I can before it gets dried.
