I have a few Questions...
1. I label all my spots early summer and late summer spots. Am i misleading myself?Do they produce in the same spot close to the same date year after year? Also, can a chicken produce in early summer and then again in late summer in the same spot?
2. I look for 3 days of mid 80s before i start checking spots. Does this hold true most of the time for you? Do they grow in the hottest part of summer?
3.When a chicken mushroom first infects the tree how long does the tree take to die, and how long will the chicken produce after the tree is dead?
4.What kinds of oaks (or any tree) do they like?
5.Whats the best way to preserve chicken?
6. Earlier in spring during a warm spell i thought i seen a orange spot on the base of a tee. The next few days it got real cold and turned brown. It got me thinking. If that was a chicken, it started and then died off, does that mean its done until next year?
Thanks :bigrin2:

I can't answer all the questions cause I don't have all day!!! Just kidding.Best way to preserve a chicken is to freeze it in food saver bags.Rinse off and clean by hand(never soak it). Also when harvesting a chicken I never remove the whole mushroom.Yes they make great pics when whole like yours you found.Take picture before you remove it.Reason being the center of those are rather woody and tough. When I harvest a chicken mushroom I use a fillet knife.Take your knife and run it into shroom till the blade stops at the thicker inner part of mushroom.Cut and harvest only the out more tasty part of shroom.I to mark all my spots to see if and when they come back. This year I'll learn more if and when they come back.As far as come back after harvesting them it seems to me when disturbed one for harvesting their done for the year even parts I don't touch on the long seem to die off.My favorite chicken time is towards fall September seems real good around my area.Never know though mushrooms are funny like that.As far as trees fresh fallen oaks from storms seem to produce best for me.Mushrooms as far as hottest part of year sure if it's get lots of moisture. With out moisture and heat it's not going to be good. Areas by me seem to dry out quick so more moisture more better!! Hope some of this helps ya.
