Went for a walk in the woods today but didn't see any sign of any type of fungus. After a wile I went back to the truck and started driving down the dirt road when I noticed some sort of shelf looking mushroom growing on a tree. Unfortunately I did not have a digital camera on me but I did have a regular 35MM camera. I took some pics but I will not have them soon enough to post for an ID. I can say this though. They are a light tan and creamy beige color there were many layers. They were very wet, you could squeeze water out of them. The seemed to have kind of like a slight peach fuzz texture and were smooth on the top and bottom. They have a very pleasent fragarance. I cut a few peices off. I am going to try to get an ID on them. Does this sound familair to anyone? There were three seperate groups of these.

Sounds like what I found last year. Do they look like a sulphur shelf, cept they are a white/peach color? Polypore? Very fruity smelling?

I couldn't ID them, my guess is a variety of a sulphur shelf. But I didn't eat one to find out. THey smell real good.

The only other shelf mushroom I see this time of the year grows on maples, kinda resembles a trilobyte fossil, called a northern tooth. Not edible, but they are very tough and tight to the tree.

I think I do have the northern tooth. It is a polypore Grows just like a sulpur shelf but looks more like an oyster mushroom and like I said they were a tan and cream color. And yes, they were tight to the tree. I couldn't pull them off, I had to cut them. These were growing on a Choke Cherry tree. I guess I will just toss them out.

Thanks For the info Stump.
