Just like there are different sizes, and colors for morels there are different sizes, shapes, and colors for "Beefsteaks". Some eat them, others don't. Most books and experts say they are poison. If you don't know what you have don't eat it. Check out the National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms and you will see several different ones. Some are deadly, some poison, and some are choice.
