Oct 1987 was a year i'll never for get. Hunting scents for bow hunting were really a hot thing. This company come out with a product called BUCK in a bottle. Some of you may recall this product. Well bought me a bottle and set out for my hunting stand. Followed instructions -put some on a golf tee that had cotton stuck on it , also put a few drops on the leaves. Climbed my ladder stand and waited. Nothing showed up by dark. Got down, picked up the golf tee with scent on it and put it in my coat pocket and went home.Went hunting again on the next nite and decided to hunt on the ground on the edge of a cut corn field. Sprayed on some stuff called scent shield and started hunting.Just before dark i heard deer coming ,but they were coming up from behind me. They kept getting closer, and closer finally i could tell they were right behind me and i mean Very close. Then it happened -a deer started nudging my coat pocket with its nose. I froze -he did it again -i jumped like h_ll -the deer just exploded away from me . Then i remembered the golf tee in my pocket and the warning on the bottle of Buck in a bottle-DON'T GET ON YOUR CLOTHES- you could be attacked. Believed it or not-Del

Oh I believe it. I have read so many wild stories out of Deer and Deer hunting magazine about deer behaving wildly with scents.

Your lucky Del this could have been you. :bigrin2:

Yeah - I believe it Del. Get a horned up buck at the peek of rut and under those conditions he almost wouldnt' care if you were dressed up in hunter's orange carrying a floresent pink .30-06! LOL Last year, the walk from the car to our stands was a solid 1/4 mile, a bit more. My brother did the trick where he "boot dragged" a scent coated pad. An hour in the stand later he heard something at the base of the tree. There was a smal doe right at the foot of the tree looking confused. She dropped her head, circled the tree, and followed the trail back the way she came. LOL

Yes I believe and think that you have to be very careful when luring or calling in deer. In the first week of Nov. 1990 I was bow hunting a new farm that my freind secured permission to hunt. My treestand was located about 20yds. in a corner of a woodlot that was surrounded by corn with a hedge row running out of it. It was high noon and was going to go in for some lunch but decided to do a little scouting first. So I followed the hedge row and corn field down to where it ended and over looked a swale that sloped down to a swampy area. While admiring how good it looked I remebered this grunt call that I purchased a few days earlier (my freind said it sounded like a sick cow). So I stepped back into the corn and got it out and blow a couple of honks on it and think how goofy the thing sounds. After a couple of minutes pass I do it again. I then here some commotion and step out of the corn to see what it is, and here comes this huge buck! He's at about 30yds. head down and charging rite at me and closing fast!! I did the only thing that I could do and stepped back into the corn and drew my bow, but I was shaking so bad I couldn't keep an arrow knocked. The deer was probably close to 300lbs. and looked like he had more than 10pts. (I didn't have time to count'em). I then here the deer in the corn thrashing, stomping and grunting (oh that's what the call sounds like) going around behind me! The hunter is now being the hunted!! So I get on the other side of the hedge row and get the heck outta there before that rut crazed beast finds me!! Now when I'm on the ground w/only a bow I'm very careful when calling. That's my story, believe it or not!

My wife said "watcha doin today"? I said "nothin". She said "you did that yesterday". I said "I wasn't finished".
