Looking for recommendations on which to use. I've never hunted Turkey and my coworkers that have say I should use a 12 ga, but it seems like an overkill to me. Any advice is appreciated. Oh, I live in northern Indiana.

20 will do it, but if you're just getting started I'd go w/ 12. get your self a ported choke and some Fiocci Mag Nik's in #6.

So many mushrooms; so little time...

20 gauge is fine but a 12 gauge is not overkill either.
I like the lightweight of the 20 to carry.
The important thing is to shoot at differnt yardage
and find out what your pattern is and what ammo
works best in your gun.
For me it is 30 yards or under with my 20.
Good luck!

A 12 ga is not over kill . I use a 10 gauge . you are trying for the head and not the body so you need knock down power. Not at all too much gun.

A 20 guage or 12 guage will work just fine. Regarding overkill, I know an individual who uses a 10 guage. The object when choosing a good turkey gun, is to achieve a dense pattern. Because turkey hunters generally aim for the neck-head area, there is no need to worry about overkill. There are many companys who sell chokes specifically designed for turkey hunting, which give the shooter tighter patterns at greater distances. It's always a good idea to target practice with paper targets so you can figure out your max shooting distance. I myself hunt with a 3 1/2 magnum 12 guage. The ammunition I use sports 2 1/4 ounces of lead shot. Good Luck!

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I'm going to go with the 12 ga as that's what my friends dad has for me to borrow for the fall. I was worried that it was going to be to "strong", but after shooting a few times it wasn't as bad as I thought. Thanks again!

12 guage is definitely not overkill. They can be very hard to kill.

either work fine. pattern your shotgun and find the loads that shoot best out of that particular gun, keep your shots to a reasonable distance and you will do fine.
