OK I'm sick of soaking myself from head to toe with Deet every year but that seems to be what it takes in the areas I hunt if you don't want to be carried off by the skeeters and deer flies, I know we have another topic here that about everyone's favorite bug repellent (off, cutters, ect.) but what I'm really looking for is a more natural (less toxic) solution, I remember Greys saying he uses a combination spray with eucalyptus, tea tree oil and citronella, I also heard rubbing catnip on yourself works pretty well, anyone else have any secrets to share?

Those Thermacells work. I have one and love it. It does not work well if it is really windy or if you are moving fast though. Not natural but you also are not rubbing crap all over your skin which I hate.

Thanks Todd, I've been considering one of those for a while now, my brother swears by his, says it keeps him bug free while bow hunting, I was just a little concerned on how well it worked while walking, probably give it a shot seeing how I don't move as fast as I used to anymore.LOL.

i have heard that a mixture of apple cider and vinager works. but i have not tried it. eating alot of garlic helps some. and one of my friends doesnt shower very often and doesnt use deoderant at all. so b.o. works for him. and it repels way more than just bugs.

From what I've read, no they don't and you
have to keep buying the 2 different types of cartridges
for the thermacells.

I like the 100 percent deet myself and seldom ever spray in on
my skin.
I keep a lightweight long sleeved shirt and ballcap in the car
that I keep sprayed.

Google "All Terrain" insect repellent. I use it and it works but you have to reapply every 2 hours. It comes in a pump spray bottle and has never stained my clothes or hurt delicate skin on my face and hands.

Does sting your eyes AND you will smell of citron and other essential oils...all day long until you shower. Nice not to have Deet in your shrooms. I go through about 3 bottles per season @ 10 bucks a pop.

Works to repel mosquitos and ticks but you have to apply liberally.

My onion juice worked pretty good yesterday. The only problem was that it wasn't sweat resistant. Anyone know how to make home aid bug spray waterproof or sweat proof? Rather than throwing away all my old rotting onions, i chopped them up, outer layer and all and boiled them down till the water was nice and brown. made the house stink but its better than deet.
