I think i found a Verpa today. It was very small, about the size of a dime. I could be wrong since it was so small and i haven't seen many false morels before.
Blewits are better.

Hey Tony,
I wish I found as many morels as I did verpa last season. I probably found twenty of them for every morel I found. That cold snap that we had did not seem to hinder them.

Hi Jason, I have eaten them in the past back when they were considered safe. I never had any ill effects. I do not eat them anymore. They were not that bad but no where near as good as morels. (Maybe that is where I picked up this uncontrollable twitch. Just kidding!) Bob

I have never eaten any Gyromitra species and I do not intend to ever try. I have a friend that had Diarrhea for 2 days after eating B. verpa. Being that I have a cast iron stomache and a skull to match is probably the reason that they never bothered me. Bob

Speaking of edibility, I have eaten verpas with no ill effects. I also have a friend that can't eat Black morels, but Whites don't bother her.
When they're up, it's time to go Pick'n, If they're not, then it's time to go Fish'n !!!! If neither are here, it's time for a Cold Beer !!!

That is very true Jack. I have some problems when I eat hedge hogs. (Maybe I should remove the spines first!) BTW: I meant to write Verpa B. before but I wrote it the other way around. Bob
